Leading Baltic harbour towage company PKL sold to Alfons Håkans

Shareholders of the leading Baltic harbour towage company, AS PKL, including the founders and Amber Trust S.C.A., sold 100% of the company’s shares to Finnish counterpart Alfons Håkans.  The transaction closed on December 11, 2013.

PKL is an international tugboat company, mainly specialized in harbour and sea towage in Estonian, Latvian, and Finnish ports. PKL’s fleet of 15 vessels is also used for ice-breaking, fire fighting, transportation of people and small cargoes, on emergency assignments and various salvage operations.

Alfons Håkans is a Finnish tugboat company providing towage, salvage, ice-breaking, pollution recovery and other related services in larger Finnish ports and also in Estonia.  After the acquisition Alfons Håkans will operate over 40 tugs in Finland, Estonia and Latvia and will be the largest shipping company in Finland and the Baltic countries by the number of vessels operated.

“This acquisition is a remarkable part of our strategy to participate actively in the changing market situation of the towage industry in the Baltic Countries”, Chairman of the board of Håkans group, Stefan Håkans says. “This will support the growth target of the company towards becoming a major harbour towage and icebreaking operator in the Northern Baltic Sea and we see this as a positive change for our customers in Baltic countries.”

Superia Corporate Finance acted as the sole financial advisor to the selling shareholders of PKL AS in the transaction.
